why do i keep coming up with these hard to paint creatures? Imagination! Be more practical!

in Gaelic, Cait Sidhe means “Faerie Cat”. The original Cait Sidhe where dangerous wild cats who would steal away children that wandered in the woods (like many faerie creatures), but i wanted a more whimsical, original design. The Will o’ Whiskers are still dangerous, luring prey with their glowing tails. However, they belong in a less horror-themed faerie woods.

i like to look around the web for inspiration, and one day i stumbled upon CGHub’s creature creation competitions. I don’t think I’m good enough yet to enter a professional competition that that one, but i took the theme- “Sky Crawler”-and decided to use it as a prompt for a new creature. This beast is a giant worm inspired by creatures of the deep sea, paddling it’s way across the sky with it’s many limbs. It is born aloft by luminous gas, stored in big bladders. I wanted it to be translucent, or a least camouflaged. A night scene shows off it’s creepy nature and the effect it has on the landscape as it passes.

the Angel of Decay is sort of based off the D&D creature of the same name. That thing is so powerful!
this creature started with just a feeling of despair i had. it hovers and drips, making a guttural noise that sounds like either choking or sobbing. Being hit with it’s arms caused the victim’s flesh to rot away. They congregate in abandoned, filthy places.

i tried some new ideas with this design! I added a border around the character so simulate a back light, used a grunge texture for the background, and dropped a vector symbol i created for Ragmutter in the background as well. How does it look?
When Ragmutter is starting her campaign to take over a world, she disguises herself as a humanoid with her psychic powers. Traveling from city to city, she gathers followers from the sick and outcast, promising healing and new life in return for their service. Unfortunately for the new recruit, this new growth comes with a price…
